Honorable William Matthew Byrne Professor of Law Justin Hughes and Professor of Law and Centennial Chair in Consumer Law Lauren Willis recently received Fulbright Scholar Awards for their cutting-edge academic work.
In addition to his teaching at Oxford University this academic year, Professor Hughes will serve as the 2024 Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Business and Economics at Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki, Finland. Hughes’ Fulbright project focuses on the distinct history, legislative provisions, and policy thinking of “Nordic copyright” as part of a comparative understanding of copyright law. He also hopes to use the time for a deeper dive into related EU policy developments, especially the new EU AI Act. Professor Willis, who currently brings her consumer protection expertise to the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice as advisor to Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter, will serve as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Melbourne, Australia, in 2024-2025. Her Fulbright project will study implementation of Australia’s Design & Distribution Obligations, a groundbreaking, performance-based regulatory scheme for consumer financial products.
