LCCR Staff Highlight: Janet S. Grundfest '89

Janet S. Grundfest is an award-winning lead mediator for Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution's (LCCR). Janet was awarded the 2017 Los Angeles County Volunteer of the Year Award for her mediation work with the Department for Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA).

Janet is a graduate of Loyola Law School class of 1989. Janet practiced insurance law in the private sector for years before retiring to start a family. In 2015, Janet trained as a mediator at DCBA, mediating civil cases in Small Claims Court, Civil Limited Court and Unlawful Detainers.

In 2018, Janet returned to Loyola as a senior staff mediator and student supervisor at LCCR. Janet says that she has "found her calling" in community mediation, assisting those that cannot afford a lawyer or whose cases aren't big enough for a lawyer to resolve their own disputes. For the City of Beverly Hills, Janet is assisting their residents and businesses in landlord/tenant and neighbor disputes.

Janet's favorite part of working at LCCR is supervising and mentoring our clinic students in conciliating/mediating for hundreds of parties that call LCCR for assistance. Janet is delighted to be back at Loyola Law School.
