We are thrilled to announce that Sara Campos ‘99, Director of the Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution and Visiting Associate Professor, has been honored with the prestigious L. Randolph Lowry Educator of the Year Award by the Southern California Mediation Association (SCMA). This award recognizes her outstanding contributions to the field and her unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation of mediators.
Sara Campos celebrates over 28 years of service to the community through the Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution (LCCR), the oldest social justice law clinic at Loyola Law School. LCCR offers bilingual (English/ Spanish) confidential mediation and conciliation and facilitation services for a wide range of disputes such as divorce cases, landlord-tenant cases, consumer-merchant cases, personal injury cases, and neighbor-to-neighbor cases, and trains law students in mediation and alternative dispute resolution skills.
In her acceptance speech, Campos reflected on her role as an educator and the profound impact of mentorship. She shared a powerful quote that resonates deeply with her: “A good mentor hopes you will move on; a great mentor knows you will.” This sentiment captures her approach to teaching, as she consistently empowers her students to surpass their own expectations and develop the skills necessary to navigate conflicts with confidence. Campos’ dedication to her students is evident in the lasting relationships she has built, many who have become lifelong friends.
Sara also took the opportunity to express her gratitude to her mentors, LCCR co-founder Bill Hobbs and Marta Gallegos, as well as her predecessor, Mary B. Culbert, a former L. Randolph Lowry Award recipient herself, who all played a significant role in her professional journey.
Please join us in congratulating Sara on this well-deserved recognition. We look forward to witnessing the continued growth and positive impact she will have in the field of mediation.
