On March 22, 2024, LMU’s School of Film and Television (SFTV) and Loyola Law School’s Entertainment and Media Law Institute (EMLI) co-hosted “Call My People,” an event that explores the crucial relationship between creative talent and their business/legal representatives. The first Call My People event was held remotely during COVID. The objective was for LLS and SFTV students to foster a connection while learning about talent representation. Fast forward 5 years and Call My People is now an annual event.
The event featured Jamil Akim O'Quinn, SFTV alum, writer, and director. He is known for his work as a writer on the acclaimed series NCIS: Los Angeles, and his current role as a researcher on CBS/Paramount's The Equalizer. O'Quinn shared invaluable insights from his extensive experience in the industry, offering attendees a deeper understanding of how creatives collaborate with their business teams.
A key highlight of "Call My People" was its examination of talent representation from three distinct perspectives: from O’Quinn himself, his lawyer Michael Green, and manager Jon Kee. By delving into the perspectives of both creative talents and their business counterparts, students gained valuable insights into talent management and representation.
Moreover, the event served as a bridge between SFTV and Loyola Law students, fostering collaboration between disciplines. The event proved to be both enlightening and inspirational, offering students a rare glimpse into the inner workings of talent representation in the entertainment industry while fostering connections between students across campuses.
