Brian Plaut
State Income Tax Clinic
Brian Plaut stood out among his clinical peers because his performance was consistently and significantly above expectations, at times even exceeding that of an entry level attorney. First, Brian has great research and writing skills. He won high praise from his peers on his joint research memo with another student on a very complicated case. The memo was awarded the best memo in our clinic. It clearly demonstrated not only his ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide well-reasoned arguments, but also his ability to utilize the latest technology in improving his legal work. Additionally, Brian is a superb oral advocate. He presented a strong and persuasive argument in an oral hearing before three Administrative Law Judges before the Office of Tax Appeals, all while displaying great confidence and poise. His ability to think on his feet and respond to challenging questions is very impressive. Finally, Brian was consistently diligent in his case work. He was organized, prompt, thorough, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure the best possible outcome for his clients. He was an excellent team player, demonstrating a strong work ethic, professionalism, and a commitment to the clinic's mission of helping taxpayers navigate their appeal. Overall, Brian's exceptional work in research, advocacy, and diligence makes him a deserving candidate for the Outstanding Clinic Student Award. His dedication and commitment to excellence are truly admirable, and I have no doubt that Brian will continue to excel in his legal career.
