In 1933, Irwin R. Buchalter started practicing law in Los Angeles and, in 1948, he joined California attorneys Jerry Nemer and Murray Fields to found the law firm that would become the Buchalter of today. The young firm served the area’s growing, post-war commercial community in all aspects of business and litigation.
Over the past nine decades, Buchalter has grown into a thriving, successful firm with over 500 lawyers in 14 offices nationwide. With a strong presence in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco, Sacramento, San Diego, Napa Valley, Seattle, Portland, Denver, Salt Lake City, Scottsdale, Nashville, Atlanta, and Chicago, the firm is proud to serve its clients in all aspects of their business and personal needs ranging from financing, litigation, tax, employment, real estate, insolvency, intellectual property to estate planning and family law.
Throughout this growth, Buchalter has been committed to reflecting and enhancing the rich diversity of the clients and communities in which we serve. Buchalter annually provides in several of its offices internships and scholarships to high school students from under-privileged communities. Buchalter has committed itself to hiring diverse lawyers such that 31% of its lawyers and 23% of its shareholders are members from a diverse background. Buchalter is also committed to the Mansfield Rule. The firm’s diversity of attorneys and staff provides clients with a greater array of creative talent and alternative thinking, benefiting all.
Buchalter is also strongly committed to public service. Its attorneys actively participate in many associations and groups including the Public Law Center, San Francisco Legal Aid Society, California State Bar Association, the LACBA Domestic Violence Project, the Sojourner Center, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Phoenix and many others.
Over 50 of its attorneys are alumni of Loyola Law School. This Public Service Scholarship has been funded by those alumni who all share a commitment to community and public service.
