Chivas’s personal mantra is “ We are not survivors. We are warriors!” As a survivor of crime, Chivas has a burning passion to remove the stigma associated with domestic violence and sexual assault. Because of this, she has been committed to supporting survivors through her work for the past 23 years. In 2014, Chivas was nominated as Advocate of the Year by the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence. She was also the recipient of the Purple Ribbon Award for Domestic Violence in 2021. Chivas is currently pursuing her Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice. She is also a Housing Case Manager for Stand Up Placer, a non-profit organization offering services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
