Genine Cumba '20 is a Filipina-American immigrant and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipient with a passion for public interest work and community building. She came to the United States with her family when she was 11 years old and has been a proud Angeleno ever since.

During her time at LLS, she worked as a law clerk for the California Office of the Attorney General’s Natural Resources Law Section and an extern for the Honorable Dolly M. During her time as a clinical student in the Loyola Immigrant Justice Clinic, Cumba worked with a Guatemalan minor seeking asylum relief. She also assisted in advocacy efforts, creating “know your rights” pamphlets and resources for arriving migrants at the border.
After graduating and passing the bar in 2020, Cumba began her legal career as a commercial litigator with ArentFox Schiff LLP. She has since transitioned back into the public interest sector as a staff attorney with the Children’s Law Center of California, advocating for the rights of children in foster care.
