Mediator in Residence Program
LCCR’s Mediator in Residence (MIR) seeks to bring our mediation and conciliation services directly to the community by collaborating with community organizations, legal service providers, and court self-help centers. Our goal is creating a more visible and consistent presence in the community and reach more individuals who don’t yet know about us or who might not be inclined to initially reach out to our offices. An LCCR Staff and/or student Mediator takes on the role of Mediator in Residence at the host organization on the same half-day (morning or late afternoon) each month.
The organization’s constituents sign up to see the Mediator in Residence or call us directly for help via referral from the host organization. Our Mediator in Residence provides a presentation on LCCR to the host organization's patrons, explaining our services, and then meets with parties individually to discuss possibly mediating or conciliating their dispute. If an individual desires mediation, LCCR provides the mediation at the host organization (if space allows) or we arrange to mediate at Loyola Law School. Additionally, organizations can refer people to LCCR who have an immediate conflict that needs to be resolved. Currently we have three MIR partnerships that are up and running: the Pasadena Senior Center, the Small Claims Clinic (which is virtual) and our latest collaboration with Homeboy Industries.
