2022 Welcome Message by Center Director

Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution (LCCR) is back on campus!

“Success isn’t about how much money you make, it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.” Michelle Obama

We successfully transitioned and sustained remote trainings, mediation and conciliation services during the 18-month stay at home period.  LCCR, along with the rest of Loyola Law School returned to campus in August of 2021 and hit the ground running.  We loved hearing “You actually answer the phone!” from our parties. It feels good to be back and see there is a buzz in the clinic! There is no replacement for having our students sit in the LCCR answering the phone, conducting intakes, negotiating agreements, listening to our mediators and each other, and receive instant feedback. All of this in addition to having an opportunity to watch a face-to-face mediation through our one-way mirror and participate in a post mediation debrief!

2021 marked the beginning of my latest chapter as Director at LCCR. Looking back at this past year, I want to share some of our amazing accomplishments. In 2021 we started year two of the COVID 19 Pandemic but continued to provide quality mediation and conciliation services. Our three clinics are up and running and we even created a new project – The Landlord Tenant Options Counseling Project.

Students in the Conciliation and Mediation Assistance Clinic (C-MAC) began the year remotely and on-line but ended with live and in person training and office hours on campus. The Dependency Court Mediation Assistance Clinic (DC-MAC) resumed mediations in the beginning of 2021, which continue to be conducted remotely.  During the fall semester, we offered The Collaborative Family Law Mediation Clinic (C-LAW) for the first time since 2019 with live clients, volunteer professionals, and student externs.

LCCR continues to provide safe and confidential virtual mediation and telephone conciliations in a wide variety of civil disputes. Currently, we have 17 students participating in our C- MAC and DC-MAC clinics combined. Day in, day out, there are many ways that our students change the lives of the Los Angeles Community for the better.

LCCR will continue to make a difference in 2022.

A sincere thank you to our LCCR team - our phenomenal staff and students, LSJC, LLS Staff, and LLS Administration for all their support in making our return to campus a success!

Wishing you a safe, healthy and happy spring!
