On March 7, 2023, Cailin Ruff (JD 2024), Stavroula Kyriazis (JD 2024), and Megan Mars (JD 2023), three of the students of the International Human Rights Center, presented to the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights a civil society parallel report to Malawi. The report was jointly prepared by the IHRC, Woman and Law in Southern Africa Research and Education Trust, Young Women's Consortium, and Nyale Institute. The report focused on access to abortion and post-abortion care in Malawi, which come under the purview of the Covenant (Articles 3, 10, 12 and 15). Their presentation highlighted the need to expand exceptions for abortion to include cases of sexual assault and minors, with the ultimate goal of decriminalizing abortion in Malawi. Abortion was highlighted in the list of issues in relation to the initial report of Malawi published March 22, 2023.
