Hon. Tomson T. Ong '83

Ong balances the scales of justice with the golden apples of education. The Los Angeles County Superior Court judge is dedicated to public law and to learning, holding not one but three advanced degrees. In addition to his juris doctor, Ong earned a master of laws in taxation from the University of San Diego and a doctorate in public administration from the University of Southern California.
In 1999, he was honored as the distinguished Fulbright-SyCip lecturer and taught for one year at universities in the Philippines. He remains a Fulbright senior specialist, consulting and lecturing in the fields of law and policy at foreign government agencies. A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge since 2000, Ong presides over misdemeanor and felony trials, including special circumstance/death penalty cases. He also has served as a Long Beach Municipal Court judge, an assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California and a deputy city attorney in Santa Ana, California.
Ong’s commitment to education stems from the belief that we never stop learning: “Education is not a terminal experience, but a life’s quest for human development,” he says.
