China Summer Program in Beijing

About the Program

International and Comparative Law Program

This year the China summer program will focus on international business transactions and comparative constitutional law (judicial review; freedom of speech, privacy and equality, etc.).  Students will have the opportunity to study at one of the most respected law schools in China, the University of International Business and Economics Law School (UIBE).  Courses are taught by faculty from Loyola Law School and Brooklyn Law School, with lectures by prominent Chinese legal scholars and judges.

Location

China is one of the world's fastest-growing economic powers, which makes it an excellent place to study international business transactions.  Students will live in Beijing, the capital of the People’s Republic of China, where all major government offices, including the Chinese Supreme Court, are located.  Many of China’s largest state-owned companies, as well as international corporations and law firms, have their headquarters in the city. Beijing is the cultural center for Chinese politics, economics, and education.  It is a bustling city with a thriving population of approximately 19 million people.  Students will have the opportunity to explore China’s ancient history—the forbidden city, great wall, Ming tombs, and many other important attractions, alongside modern developments like the Olympic Stadium.

Highlights

  • Lectures by legal scholars experienced in international and comparative law.
  • Students can participate in visits to local cultural sites and legal institutions such as the International Arbitration Association, the Supreme Court of China, the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City.
  • Excellent match of location and theme.
  • UIBE is known for its academic rigor; and for producing leading government officials responsible for China’s economic power.
