Extracurricular Activities

Loyola’s connections in the tax community offer numerous opportunities for professional development outside the classroom.  Each year, Loyola sponsors student teams in the ABA Law Student Tax Challenge, a national tax planning competition.   Students also network with Los Angeles County Bar Association Tax Section members at regular meetings on the Loyola campus, and participate in Tax Law Society sponsored discussions on current tax issues and tax career development.

Students interested in legal scholarship can graduate with honors by completing a scholarly tax article and meeting a minimum grade point average requirement. Finally, Loyola’s close ties to local tax bar organizations offer students the chance to participate in professional activities and form relationships with local tax lawyers early in their careers. Each year, the California tax bar delegation to Washington, DC invites Loyola’s LLM students to influence tax reform firsthand by joining California tax lawyers in personally presenting papers recommending reforms to IRS and Treasury officials, legislative staff and Tax Court judges.
