Professor Victor J. Gold has earned many accolades as a legal educator and administrator since he started teaching at Loyola Law School in 1984. His tenure as associate dean for academic affairs from 2000-2005 saw an increased focus on Loyola’s national stature, a drive to recruit top-notch professors and an emphasis on faculty research. Most recently, Gold earned an Excellence in Teaching Award from the graduating class of 2007.

Gold is the author of six books on the Federal Rules of Evidence. He has also written numerous articles on evidence and advocacy law. He lectures on evidence and contracts law for students preparing to take the bar exam in California, Arizona, Nevada and Oregon. Widely considered one of the country’s top experts in evidence law, Gold served as a CBS New legal analyst from 1994-97. He taught in Loyola's LLM program at the University of Bologna, Italy, in 2006. Additionally, he is a fellow at Wolfson College, Cambridge University, England.

Prior to joining Loyola, Gold was a tenured law professor at Arizona State University and an associate at Nossaman, Krueger & Marsh, where he rejected a partnership to pursue a teaching career. He graduated Order of the Coif from UCLA Law School, where he was an editor of the UCLA Law Review.

Gold is a member of the American Law Institute and the author of Bar exam questions on contracts, remedies and evidence in California and Arizona. In addition to CBS News, he has provided legal commentary to The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, ABC News, NBC News, CNN and many other outlets. At Loyola, Gold teaches Contracts, Evidence, Remedies and Scientific Evidence.

While in law school, Ellen Aprill was articles editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. Following graduation, she served as law clerk to the Honorable John Butzner of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and to the Honorable Byron R. White, associate justice, United States Supreme Court. She then practiced for several years with the law firm of Munger, Tolles & Olson in Los Angeles. Before joining the Loyola faculty, Aprill served for two years in the Office of Tax Policy in the United States Department of the Treasury in Washington, DC. She has been a member of the Loyola Law School faculty since 1989, and she is the founder of the school's graduate tax program.

While in law school, Leonard was a member of the UCLA Law Review. After graduation, he practiced with Morrison & Foerster in Los Angeles before serving as a lecturer-in-law at UCLA from 1979-81. In 1981, Leonard was appointed to the faculty of Indiana University School of Law. He returned to Los Angeles in 1990 to join the Loyola faculty.

Leonard’s scholarship has mostly focused on evidence law. He has written many articles and has authored or co-authored several books including Evidence: A Structured Approach (with Victor Gold), Evidence Law: A Student's Guide to the Law of Evidence as Applied in American Trials (with Roger C. Park & Steven H. Goldberg), The New Wigmore: A Treatise on Evidence: Selected Rules of Limited Admissibility and Questions and Answers: Evidence.

At Loyola, Leonard teaches Evidence, Torts and an Evidence Seminar.

Debra Martin is the associate dean for business, responsible for all financial and operational aspects of the school, including fiscal and business affairs, campus planning, information technology, special event support and human resources. She began her career in public accounting with KPMG and was most recently the director of institute finance at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the director of financial management at New York University’s School of Law. She is a member of the Accounting Principles Council of the National Association of Colleges and University Business Officers, on the board of directors for Verbum Dei High School and on the audit committee for the Thirty Meter Telescope Project, a joint venture between Caltech and the University of California.

Sean Scott joined the faculty of Loyola Law School in 1989. She is a graduate of Smith College and New York University School of Law. While at NYU Scott was a recipient of the Arthur G. Hays Civil Rights, Civil Liberties Fellowship and chair of the Black Law Students Association. Prior to joining the faculty, she was an associate at the Los Angeles based firm of Manatt, Phelps and Phillips. 

In 1998, Scott received the Distinguished Faculty Award from the Loyola Law School Black Law Students Association. In 2006, she was voted the Professor of the Year.  Sscott has been an active participant in and organizer of the West Coast Law Teachers of Color Conferences. She is a past member of the board of directors of the California Women’s Law Center and has sat on the boards of directors of two private elementary schools, one of which she chaired. Scott speaks frequently on the subject of race, gender and the law. She is also currently the associate dean for faculty.

Yamamoto has over 30 years of experience in legal education. She served at the University of California Los Angeles School of Law before joining Loyola Law School. Prior to taking on responsibilities as dean of students, Yamamoto's administrative experience was in admissions and career services.

John Hoyt joined Loyola as director of financial aid and student accounts in 1992, and was later promoted to executive director of student financial and information services. As assistant dean, he is the primary decision-maker and goal setter for three student service departments: the Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid and Student Accounts. As such, Hoyt plays a key role in fashioning a strategic plan to achieve optimal enrollment goals for the Law School. Prior to joining Loyola Law, Hoyt worked at UCLA.

Kenneth Ott has managed fundraising efforts for Loyola Law School since 1998, directing the capital campaigns for the Rains Library renovation and the Albert H. Girardi Center. He is currently running the $40 million endowment campaign. Ott is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE). Prior to service at Loyola, Ott served as director of development for the University of Southern California School of Medicine and The Pasadena Playhouse.

Jannell Roberts’s fourteen-year tenure in higher education includes work in admissions, student services and financial aid.  She joined the Loyola community in 2005 where she works closely with senior deans and faculty to manage and implement admission goals and policies.  Roberts is an active member of Law School Admission Council (LSAC) committees including LSAC's Minority Affairs Committee,  Newcomers Planning Work Group and Annual Meeting and Educational Conference. Prior to joining Loyola, Roberts worked at USC Law School,  Southwestern University School of Law and her alma mater, Loyola Marymount University.

Graham Sherr has been involved in legal recruiting and career counseling since leaving law practice in 1982. Prior to joining the Office of Career Services in 1994, Sherr spent nearly 12 years as a legal recruiter placing attorneys in major Southern California law firms. In addition to counseling students and alumni, Sherr serves as the Law School's primary ambassador to the job market,working to expand the Law School's network of employers.
